Saint Valentines Day on February 14th has long been associate with love and romance; where people express their love for each other by giving flowers, chocolates and greetings cards, and of course engagement rings!
Along with Christmas and New year, Valentines proposals are hugely popular; there are literally hundreds of opportunities for a romantic proposal from a winter walk on the beach, a trip up the Eiffel Tower, a surprise party with friends and family or a simple candlelit dinner for two.
A romantic candlelit dinner was the inspiration for this Valentines shoot with fine art photographer Theresa Furey and calligrapher Claire Gould from Calligraphy for Weddings. We wanted to portray a simple but pretty table setting which could be recreated at home for your loved one, with a little styling inspiration, romantic red flowers and delicious desserts.
For the floral table centre I deviated from the usual (and dare I say it, boring!?) red roses and went for more seasonal red ranunculus, along with dainty waxflowers, foliage and for something deliciously different, fresh fruit!
The table was set with pretty glass ware, crockery and candlesticks from The Vintage Hire, and a hint of gold sparkle from cutlery by Vintage Gold. We sourced some red linen for the table cloth and napkin and added a table runner with a dainty floral pattern from Sainsburys.
For the ultimate in Valentines Day romance Claire wrote a beautiful love letter in handwritten calligraphy with red ink, along with some scrolls with favourite romantic quotes.
I hope you enjoyed this little inspiration shoot, I really love doing little creative projects so watch this space for more throughout the year.
