Summer brings with it a glorious abundance of fresh flowers and fragrant herbs, providing a vast array of colours, shapes and textures to enliven any arrangement.
For me, summer is all about colour: my garden is a patchwork of greens, interrupted by pops of colour from bright lemon yellow roses, hot pink snapdragons and cobalt blue cornflowers all bursting to be included a colourful cottage garden bouquet. The buckets of fresh flowers at the wholesalers form an eye-catching rainbow, and as a florist I’m spoilt for choice!
The seasonal summer abundance includes some of my all-time favourite flowers including heavenly sweet peas, with a fragrance which fills the air. Gorgeous garden roses and big blowsy peonies are quintessentially English summer flowers and are a popular choice for both weddings and other events where using seasonal flowers epitomises that summer feeling.
Fresh, fragrant herbs such as lavender, mint and majoram awaken the senses, whether included as a cut flower in a bouquet or potted up in vintage tins or rustic buckets and placed around the home or venue. Edible flowers are another great idea for livening up your summer party dishes, try adding pansies petals into your salads, scattering cornflowers over cakes or for classy cocktails freeze flowers such as borage in ice cubes.
As well as the flowers themselves I also take inspiration for seasonal summer styling from all sorts of experiences which capture summer for me; days spent by the sea for that barefoot beach style, a picnic in the park, the charm of an evening stroll in the country or the bold bright colours of festival flags.
Whether you’re planning a simple supper in the garden, a big birthday party or a charity fundraising ball, summer flowers and styling by Jenny Fleur will ensure your special occasion really is steeped in summer. “Jeni’s natural creative flair means she can provide inspiration for different event and party themes. We recently organised a Midsummer Night’s Dream party which Jen helped to provide ideas and of course the flowers and props required! The table decorations looked great and were perfect for the theme, thank you!”
