It’s June so it’s peony season! Peonies are possibly the most requested flower for weddings but with a brief season of availability; so when the blowsy beauties are here in abundance I hardly need an excuse to include them. Lucy and Tom’s summer wedding at Mill Barns was full of peonies in pretty pastel pinks and ivory whites. Other summer favourites such as fragrant garden roses, feathery astilbe, mock orange, nigella and larkspur also featured to create a truly romantic summer wedding.
Lucy’s bouquet was lush and luxurious, abundant with summer blooms and trailing foliage for movement. I added hand-dyed silk ribbons for a dreamy, romantic look. Lucy’s six bridesmaids all carried smaller, but no less beautifully abundant bouquets. The boys wore buttonholes of the palest peachy-pink spray roses, astrantia and foliage and I added a sprig of mock orange for Tom.
I placed two churns overflowing with flowers and foliage to welcome guests to the church ceremony which were moved back for the reception. Working with Lauradana from Wedding Creations we filled the barns with florals and decorative details. A welcome sign greeted guests and foliage flowing down the steps around lanterns led them to find their seats on a fabulous watercolour gin table plan by Harriet at De Winton Paper Co which I hung on my copper stand and adorned with more florals. There was also another stand for the ladies to hang their hats.
Inside the Mill Pond Barn Lauradana styled the tables with hand-dyed runners and gin table names. I kept the table centres low and unstructured in classic compote style urns filled with all those beautiful summery blooms. The focal piece in the room was a suspended backdrop behind the top table – an oversized garland of lush greenery dotted with flowers ‘growing’ up the wall. This provided a real feature to frame the top table especially during the speeches as you will see in the beautiful images from Bowtie & Belle Photography. so do have a scroll through this romantic summer wedding at The Mill Barns, there’s just so much pretty!
