No, I’m not talking about a Julia Roberts rom com, but in fact the wedding flowers I did for my amazing friend Nicki’s wedding to Arron in North Devon last September. Weddings are always exciting but when it’s one of your best friends then getting involved in all the preparation and build up is doubly as exciting! I also had the honour of being one of Nicki’s bridesmaids so there were lots of planning meet ups, including a trip to a wedding fair with the most hilarious catwalk show I’ve ever seen! But back to the all-important flowers….Nicki and Arron had chosen a rich red for their colour scheme with classic red roses but gave me a free rein on combining other flowers and colours to give a relaxed country style. I used two varieties of red rose, the deep rich Grand Prix and a brighter variety called Ruby Red, combined with freesia, alstromeria, spray roses, hypericum in reds and oranges which was set off with bright green alchemilla and fountain grass to give contrast and texture.
The top table featured 3 rose heart wreaths with a selection of old glass bottles found in the grooms parents garden and the guest table arrangements were simple hand tieds in kilner jars. We also filled some welly boots with flowers for a quirky entrance arrangement. The wedding day itself was a bright, sunny September day, perfect to highlight the bright flowers and ensure that their amazing wedding photographer Howard Lucas captured some beautiful shots of their day, I was so pleased with how the flowers looked on the day, and even more importantly so were Nicki and Arron, with lots of lovely comments from all their guests, making all the hard work very worthwhile.
